Family Economics
7. Does your family consider itself rich or poor, comfortable
or struggling?
We're not rich, not poor, just average. We're comfortable.
8. How many hours/week does each family member work?
Regzen: 50-60 hours/week
Lkhamsuren: 40 hours/week at her job and another 24
hours/week at home doing housework, shopping, etc.
9. Are you satisfied with your jobs? What do you
like/dislike about them?
Regzen and Lkhamsuren are satisfied with their jobs. Regzen
can choose to drive or work construction. Lkhamsuren chose
her profession (pharmacist).
10. How much money does each family member earn/month?
Regzen: 50,000 T/month ($120 US)
Lkhamsuren: 9,000 T/month ($30 US)
11. What are your total expenses each month for:
Food: 40,000 T ($110 US)
Clothing: Whatever salary is not spent on other things.
Luxury items: 2-3,000 T ($11 US) for vodka and cigarettes.
Total: 50,000 T ($120 US)
12. What is your family's energy consumption and cost?
Electricity: $4-5/month. We use 5 tons of coal/winter
@ 3,000 T/ton ($10 US).
Water: $19/year. Water costs .40 T/liter. We get coupons
for 20 liters and 40 liters of water. We use about 40 liters minimum. Water is brought in by truck from the well to
water station.
13. How much waste do you generate; and how does your
family dispose of its waste?
Garbage goes in the metal bin which is picked up by trucks.
We waste more volume in winter because of coal and wood
ashes. Our toilet is a pit.
